For certain types of businesses not eligible for the Business Rates based grants, a new Additional Restrictions (Discretionary) Grant Issue 2 to cover the impact of the Local and National Restrictions from 2 December – 15 February 2021 was launched on 1st February 2021.

The scheme will close to new applications at midday on 26 February 2021 or when the fund has been fully allocated, whichever occurs first.

ARG Issue 2 is a one-off payment in respect of the Local and National Restrictions from 2 December 2020 – 15 February 2021.

Businesses must able to demonstrate they have been severely impacted by the restrictions from 2 December 2020 – 15 February 2021 and operate within one of the following sectors, or in its immediate supply or service chain:

  • Business required to close by law, but which are not responsible for the business rates on the premises (and are therefore not eligible for the rates based ‘Business Support Grants’)
  • Business not required to close by law because they are classified as ‘Essential businesses’ may apply but they must be able to demonstrate the business has been severely impacted by restrictions from the 2nd December 2020 onwards.
  • Businesses in the hospitality, events and leisure sectors
  • Businesses in the wider supply and service chain for the above sectors
  • Businesses in the manufacturing and engineering sectors and their supply and service chains
  • Businesses registered with Ofsted that provide childcare

Businesses can only apply once for an Additional Restrictions (Discretionary) Grant Issue 2 but can apply if they received a grant from the Additional Restrictions (Discretionary) Grant Issue 1 (for 5 November to 2 December 2020).

There is no further support confirmed by Government for any period of restrictions after 15 February 2021. Should this change, we will update you via our website news page at  hub.accountants
